The official Bungo Stray Dogs X (formerly Twitter) celebrated the National Cat Day with some special illustrations that feature the characters as cats. The Japanese holiday began in 1987 when the Executive Cat Day Committee chose the date February 22nd because its pronunciation (ni-ni-ni) sounded like a cat’s meow (nyan-nyan-nyan). The cat-themed Bungo Stray Dogs visuals were drawn by Okinawa-based illustrator Wani Aoi. See the Cat Day illustrations below: 431i28
In addition, Bungo Stray Dogs collaborated with Ani Cyu to release some cat-themed merchandise that features the Cat Day illustrations. These include shirts, acrylic stands, bags, and a blanket. Pre-orders are available on the website until February 25. Meanwhile, Itateriya also announced its Bungo Stray Dogs fluffy stuffed toys series of Chuya, Dazai, Akutagawa, and Atsushi. The stuffed toys are priced at 4,400 yen (~$30) and are available to pre-order on their website and in select Animate stores in Japan.

Bungo Stray Dogs is based on a manga written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa. It began serialization in “Young Ace” in December 2012, followed by a few more spin-off manga and light novels. An animated series was produced by Studio Bones in 2016 and has continued to have a total of five seasons. The anime, including its spin-off and movie, are available to watch on Crunchyroll. Meanwhile, Yen Press publishes the manga in English and describes the plot as:
Having been kicked out of the orphanage, a despairing young man by the name of Atsushi Nakajima rescues a strange man from a suicide attempt–Osamu Dazai. Turns out that Dazai is part of a detective agency staffed by individuals whose supernatural powers take on a literary bent!
