Studio MAPPA is animating the Chainsaw Man anime, with Ryu Nakayama as the director. Kazutaka Sugiyama is doing character designs, while Kiyotaka Oshiyama is credited for creature designs. Kensuke Ushio is composing the music. A trailer was previously revealed:
The anime is based on a manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The manga originally ran from 2018 to 2020 and ended after 97 chapters and 11 volumes. Part 2 is expected this year. Viz Media licensed the manga in English.
Crunchyroll revealed the official synopsis for the Chainsaw Man anime:
Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita.
One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man”–a man with a devil’s heart.
