Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Movie Most Watched Anime Broadcast of the 21st Century 5i2928

Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga may have ended over a year and a half ago, but Demon Slayer continues to break and set records as a franchise. The latest came after the recent Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train Arc movie TV broadcast in Japan, when it became the most watched anime broadcast in the 21st century. 4g626m

The Japanese website Livedoor News reported that the film achieved an average audience rating of 21.4% in the Kanto Region during its television broadcast on the night of September 25 in Japan. This means that on every 100 TV devices turned on in that period of time, 21.4 were following the broadcast of the film. The highest moment was recorded at 11:08 PM at 22.9%. In of numbers, about 11 million households watched the film, peaking at 11.76 million.

The September 25 broadcast of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train Arc is the biggest since a Detective Conan special from April 1999, which had a rating of 23.4%. However, it’s important to that the number of households with satellite television in Japan in 1999 was around 12.5 million, which is obviously a lot lower than today.

This is a huge number for Japanese television, especially when it comes to animated films. The opening of the Tokyo Olympic Games had a 56.4% audience rate, but other animated or live-action films normally don’t exceed a rate of 10-12%. There were several factors that helped boost it, however. It received 5 compilations in the weeks prior to the movie, each covering a part of Season 1 with new scenes. In addition, they teased that Season 2 news would come after the broadcast over a month in advance. That had a lot of fans excited with anticipation, which likely affected the ratings of the broadcast.
