The latest Mangaka Musings from VIZ have come in, revealing that Eiichiro Oda has been hooked on the Godzilla film franchise since watching Godzilla Minus One. Godzilla Minus One has been making waves at the international box office — particularly with its United States theatrical release. Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One broke the opening weekend record for a Japanese live-action with $11m, suring Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village. The Demon Slayer franchise will have another opportunity to make bank at the box office next year, as return dates for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training- and Episode 11 of the Swordsmith Village Arc to theaters were just announced alongside a Season 4 trailer and other information.

Oda will see a similar creature to Godzilla hit screens in the near future, as the release window of E&H Productions’ anime adaptation of his Monsters manga was recently revealed. A trailer featuring a dragon-like creature was previously released.

VIZ Media licenses One Piece in North America. The manga series by Eiichiro Oda has been published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since July 1997, most recently releasing Volume 107. One Piece has over 500m copies in circulation and ranked on Oricon’s Best-Selling Manga List of 2023. VIZ describes the series: “ Monkey D. Luffy and his swashbuckling crew in their search for the ultimate treasure, the One Piece.
