The sequel to the 2021 Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA: Licht – The Nameless Girl movie revealed a new visual today, during the 10th anniversary event for the anime franchise. Kazuya Hirata, who worked on the 2012 TV anime that kicked off the franchise, drew the visual. The anime follows TYPE-MOON’s Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA (stylized with the star) manga series, written and illustrated by Hiroshi Hiroyama. The manga is set in Fate/stay night alternate universe and is a spin-off story in which Illyasviel von Einzbern is a normal student who has no knowledge about magic or any of the events from the original Fate series. However, in a turn of events, she becomes a magical girl. The first anime adaptation was Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA TV anime from 2012. Silver Link animated the adaptation and all its subsequent sequels. There are currently four seasons of the TV anime, two movies, multiple specials, and OVAs.
Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA: Licht – The Nameless Girl was the latest installment in the franchise. It premiered in 2021 in Japan and was directed by Shin Onuma. Kazuya Hirata was the character designer for the work, and also a chief animation director alongside Kazuyuki Yamayoshi. The sequel to the movie was announced in August of 2021 but this is the first real bit of information that has been revealed about it.
Sentai Filmworks licensed the original TV anime for English release and describes the plot as:
Illya’s normal life is suddenly halted by the Kaleidostick Ruby, a magical wand on the run from her former master who instantly decides that little Illya has all the right stuff to become the next great magical girl. However, Ruby’s previous owner Rin Tohsaka isn’t exactly thrilled to be de-wanded, especially since she’s just accepted an assignment to collect the seven legendary Class Cards. It seems the only solution is for Illya to take up the task and learn the ropes under Rin’s supervision.
