On June 2nd, the Aichi prefectural government announced that construction for the My Neighbor Totoro area of the Ghibli theme park is underway. 4e6z4d

It has already been revealed that the park will contain a replica of Mei and Satsuki’s house. Based on the new illustration, we’ll also be getting a life-sized Catbus and giant tree – similar to the one that Totoro made grow from the acorns. As well as this, the park will contain a recreation of the airship in Castle in the Sky.
Three areas of the Ghibli theme park should open in Fall 2022. The opening areas include the Giant Ghibli Warehouse, Hill of Youth, and Dondoko Forest. The Mononoke Village, inspired by Princess Mononoke, and Witch Valley, inspired by Kiki’s Delivery Service, will open about one year later. The Dondoko Forest Area will also feature a replica of the shrine from My Neighbor Totoro. The park will also showcase a real-life Howl’s Moving Castle.
The Ghibli theme park is located in a 200-hectare area of Aichi prefecture’s Nagakute. Kajima Corporation began construction on the first three areas of the park in July 2020. The park is receiving funding from both Studio Ghibli and Aichi prefecture.
Also managed by Studio Ghibli is the Ghibli Museum, located in Mitaka. The Ghibli Museum is a popular tourist destination for fans of the renowned animation studio. The museum has been closed for the majority of the pandemic but recently reopened its doors.
