Idol by YOASOBI Tops Billboard GLOBAL Charts 632h5g

“Idol” by YOASOBI topped the Billboard Global (excluding U.S.) charts with 45.7 million streams and 24,000 copies sold outside the U.S. The song was previously sixth in the rankings and entered the top 10 six weeks ago. “Idol” is the first song originally performed in Japanese to top the Billboard Global chart. YOASOBI’s latest hit has spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. 432226

Initially released on April 12, the song was written by Ayase and based on Aka Akasaka’s short story 45510. It became the fastest song to reach 100 million streams on both Oricon and Billboard Japan in five weeks. The animated music video for the song also exceeded 100 million views in just a month. “It “Idol” is currently still holding its title as the #1 song on Spotify Japan.

It also serves as the opening theme song of Oshi no Ko anime which premiered on April 12 and is animated by the studio Doga Kobo. The English version of the song was released last May 26.
