On March 31, 2021, Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) announced that Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga exceeds 40 million copies in circulation. Furthermore, it includes both digital and print materials, together with not yet sold copies. Moreover, the manga is now on its 15th volume. Thus, due to its popularity, we can safely expect that the circulation of the manga will continue to rise as new volumes are released.
In addition, the 15th volume of the manga alone had 1.5 million copies in its initial run.
Fun fact: This is also the first time that any of the manga’s volumes had exceeded 1 million copies on its initial release.
Jujutsu Kaisen is first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018. Viz Media also published the first 3 chapters of the manga in English. Then, on December in the same year, the company started publishing the manga chapters digitally together with Shueisha, who is also publishing the manga on its Manga Plus Website.
The manga inspired an anime adaptation that premiered on Fall 2020 until winter 2021 with 24 episodes (two cours). There is also a movie titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0 The Movie that will be released this winter. Lastly, the film was based on Gege Akutami’s “Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School,” the volume 0 of Jujutsu Kaisen manga series.
