Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME has revealed Sagan Shinomiya, an original character and the adoptive sister of Kikoru Shinomiya, as part of its original storyline. Announced during the Kaiju No. 8: Defense Force Boot Camp event in Yokohama, the game introduces new narrative elements and characters exclusive to the title, which is currently in development for smartphones and PC by Akatsuki Games, TOHO, and Production I.G.
Original Story Details
Set in an expanded version of Naoya Matsumoto’s Kaiju No. 8 universe, the game’s original story will explore the emergence of Kaiju Dimensional Gates, mysterious rifts that have appeared due to the actions of an unidentified Kaiju. These gates allow previously defeated Identified Kaiju—and new, unknown variants with unique powers—to cross between dimensions and attack various global regions.
Players will engage in battles against these colossal creatures, as the Defense Force responds to an unprecedented threat that extends beyond Japan’s borders.
CLOZER Unit and Sagan Shinomiya Appear
To counter these threats, a newly formed special response unit known as the Closing Order with Zero Restrictions (CLOZER) has been created. CLOZER’s mission is to investigate and combat the Kaiju emerging from these dimensional anomalies.
Leading this unit is Sagan Shinomiya, an original character created for the game. Described as the adoptive older sister (not related by blood) of Kikoru Shinomiya, Sagan moved to the United States and enlisted in the American Defense Force after ing the Shinomiya family. While full details of her role in combat and her weapon are still a mystery, it’s clear she will play a major part in the story.
Akari Kito Cast as Voice of Sagan Shinomiya
Japanese voice actress Akari Kito has been cast in the role of Sagan Shinomiya. She commented on the role:
“I’ll be ing as an original character for the game. I’m thrilled about it! I think Sagan has this tough look to her and just comes across as so cool. I think she’s pretty serious, but she’s also a great and honest person. I’ve been so excited to play this character and record her lines.”
Kaiju No. 8 Additional Information
Kaiju No. 8 manga by Naoya Matsumoto began serialization in July 2020 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ and has since been collected into 15 volumes as of this March. The manga is set to end in two more chapters with Chapter 129. Viz Media licensed it in English.
Season 1 of the TV anime adaptation by Production I.G ran for 12 episodes from April to June 2024. It was shown in theaters along with the Season 2 TV anime is also currently in production and set to premiere on July 19.
