Popular singer-songwriter Masayoshi Oishi conducted an experiment at the Kansai Medical University in Osaka — testing whether audiences tended to boo or cheer louder. “Do people get louder when yelling than when cheering?” Oishi captioned his X post on November 5, 2023. With the scenes in the video, the answer was self-evident, as he further remarks, “Yes, they do.”
Fans may know Oishi for The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten opening theme, “Gift,” which peaked at 16 on the Oricon charts, or The Legendary Hero is Dead opening theme “Shinda!” which finished 10th in Anime Corner’s creditless video reached 1mn views in just 2 days after it was posted to YouTube on July 13, 2022.
Much like his booing experiment above, Oishi is well-known for throwing himself into interesting projects, taking part in the PRELUDERS project with Oishi then covered Spy x Family‘s opening song, “Mixed Nuts” dressed as one of the anime’s main characters, Loid Forger. This was only a month later.
Oishi was born in Ehime on January 5, 1980, and made his major debut as part of the band Sound Schedule in 2001. Oishi debuted as a solo performer on June 25, 2008, with the single, “Honoka Terasu” which was released through Happy Music Records. According to Oricon, Oishi’s singles have ten top-100 placements on the Oricon charts. Outside of performing anime themes, Oishi’s writing credits are extensive, including Kemono Friends‘ opening “Yokoso Japari Park e,” Kuromukuro‘s second ending “Eien Loop”, and Oshi no Ko‘s “Sign wa B (Ai Solo Version)”.
