AnimeJapan 2025’s exhibitor CoMix Wave Films (CWF) will again be participating this year. The studio is best known for several Makoto Shinkai films including Suzume, Weathering with You, Your Name, and 5 Centimeters per Second, and it revealed that fans can expect news on “new animation” at the event:
“We plan to hold an exhibition of ‘Japanese Animation Art Backgrounds’ in collaboration with the art background studio Bihou, a special exhibition of works by director Makoto Shinkai, and an exhibition introducing new animation by CoMix Wave Films.
*Please look forward to the information updates!“
AnimeJapan will be held from March 22 – 25, featuring exhibitions from Toei Animation (One Piece), MBS (Witch Watch, Dan Da Dan), Kadokawa (Re:Zero, Classroom of the Elite, Oshi no Ko), and many more. Toho animation will exhibit titles like My Hero Academia: Vigilantes and My Hero Academia Season 8, both set to air this year. Naruto‘s Studio Pierrot will showcase and anniversary titles; it’s worth noting that Naruto‘s four anniversary episodes are scheduled to air before the end of March 2025. The full list of exhibitors can be read here.
It’s unclear what new anime will be introduced in CWF’s exhibition. It’s likely far too soon for a new Shinkai feature film announcement; the director recently shared he hoped to Toho’s 6.09% share acquisition of CWF in 2024 was in part aimed at increasing the studio’s creative opportunities. Aside from the new animation teased by CWF, fans can look ahead to Shinkai’s exhibition and the other produced in collaboration with the background studio Bihou. Bihou’s credits include work on Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Attack on Titan, Dr. Stone, and Ascendance of a Bookworm.
