Tatsuki Fujimoto's Look Back Is Getting an Anime Movie 1m462e

An anime adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Look Back one-shot manga is officially in the works, as announced earlier. Studio Durian is in charge of animation. The movie will premiere on June 28 in Japan. Kiyotaka Oshiyama, who directed Shishigari, is directing the adaptation and also doing the character designs. Oshiyama previously worked on Chainsaw Man as a creature designer. He is also one of the founders of Studio Durian. q3537

The Look Back anime will adapt the one-shot, first published in 2021 on the Shonen Jump+ platform. It follows the story of two high school students, Fujino and Kyomoto, who bond over a shared love for art after a teacher suggests they work together. As time es, the two become very close but life has different plans for them.

Tatsuki Fujimoto is a manga author, best known for Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man series, which inspired an anime adaptation by MAPPA. Studio’s CEO, Manabu Otsuka, previously spoke about Fujimoto’s works and how he would love for MAPPA to adapt all of them. Fujimoto’s most recent work, besides the ongoing second part of Chainsaw Man, is another one-shot, titled Goodbye, Eri.

Look Back was nominated for Eisner’s Award in 2023. VIZ Media published it in English and describes the plot as:
The overly confident Fujino and the shut-in Kyomoto couldn’t be more different, but a love of drawing manga brings these two small-town girls together. A poignant story of growing up and moving forward that only Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of Chainsaw Man, could have crafted.

The manga is also available to read on Manga PLUS. It shares the title with Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back In Anger” song.
