For some odd yet beautiful reason, Astrogirl‘s lyricism plays well with the space-themed motif of other Snail’s House tracks. Most specifically, Snail’s House has its own space-centric lore centered around Snailchan, the out-of-this world alien that has been the subject of several Ujico music videos, including Snailchan’s Adventure, Pixel Galaxy, and Twinkle Star. It seems that fate is meant to be with this cosmic collaboration. After all, Sana represents “Space” among the Hololive EN Council .
Listening to the track for the first time, there is an air of innocence and warmness that exudes from Sana’s lines. I can’t help but tear up while smiling after listening to it. Astrogirl is not just a fun track, but rather a meaningful song that in the vastness of this universe, we are always bound to have meaningful connections, just like how she found the rest of the Hololive EN Council .
It is also worth noting that Astrogirl evokes other astronomy-related musings regarding our connection status. For me, it was the ideology behind Carl Sagan’s The Pale Blue Dot, where he takes notes as the satellite Voyager 2 captures a snapshot of the distant Earth. It reminds us to “underscore our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another,” and it is no different with Sana’s message: we are never alone once we truly find that one friend we can spend our life journey with.
Interestingly, there’s a lot of astronomy-related metaphors in the video such as “So send them over and watch our supernova explode,” pertaining to the well-known death of a massive star; or the line “Infinity sounds good to me, as long as you are by my side,” which somewhat alludes in an astronomical sense to the theory of the ever-expanding universe.
In the end, Tsukumo Sana’s Astrogirl is a fun and light track of someone who goes all of her way, even light years and eons apart, to be with the one they cherish the most.
