The official Twitter of the Uma Musume project has released a collaboration poster to promote the Top Gun: Maverick film in Japan. The new film starring Tom Cruise will be released worldwide on May 27. 51105e
The Uma Musume poster features the character Mayano Top Gun. Prior to the poster collaboration, the official Japanese Twitter for Top Gun: Maverick has announced that Mayano Top Gun will be attending the public countdown event for the movie’s release in Japan on April 21.
Mayano Top Gun is a tribute to the Top Gun movie series and even wears Maverick’s jacket. On August 28, 2021, Uma Musume announced that Mayano will serve as a “promotional pilot” for Top Gun: Maverick in Japan.
Uma Musume Pretty Derby is a multimedia franchise made by Japanese game development studio Cygames, which is focused on the storyline of some of Japan’s great racehorses reborn as “horse girls” that compete with each other. An anime adaptation for the franchise was animated by P.A. Works and aired from April to June 2018. This was then followed by a second season, animated by Studio Kai, and aired from January to March 2021. A new anime project was recently announced as “in production” this May.
Meanwhile, Top Gun: Maverick is the second film from the Top Gun series, the first one being released in 1986. Tom Cruise reprises his main role as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The film was scheduled for release on July 12, 2019, but was postponed multiple times due to the complexity of flight sequence tapings for the film, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.
