The director Shuhei Yabuta commented that Thorgil is both aggressive and clever, as well as family-friendly. The character designer and animation director Abiru Takahiko also commented, saying that his hair is fun to draw. You can read both of their comments in the image above. Shuhei Yabuta said that the staff for the anime would be returning to animate the sequel at studio MAPPA, and the staff for season 1 included:
